On Monday 2nd February, Consul General Katsutoshi Takeda paid a visit to Professor Richard Williams, Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Heriot-Watt University and was shown  around the Research Centre for Carbon Solutions.

Founded in 1821, Heriot-Watt University (Edinburgh) is a practical, research-led public university that originated as the world’s first mechanics' institute.
The university operates across five global campuses—Edinburgh, the Scottish Borders (Galashiels), OrkneyDubai, and Malaysia (Putrajaya)—offering a highly international environment where one-third of students in Edinburgh are from overseas. Students also benefit from the flexibility to transfer between these global locations.
Boasting one of the highest graduate employability rates in the UK, more than 80% of its research is ranked as "world-leading" or "internationally excellent”.

On the day, Consul General Takeda received an overview of the university from Principal Williams and they exchanged opinions on the university’s relationship with Japan, and agreed to continue cooperating closely.

Afterwards, they visited the Research Centre for Carbon Solutions, a world-leading research centre specialising in clean energy, sustainability, and CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage), which are essential climate change countermeasures.
