On Friday, 8th May, Consul General Katsutoshi Takeda visited the Lyon Court and paid a courtesy call on The Right Honourable the Lord Lyon King of Arms, Dr. Joseph Morrow.

The Court of the Lord Lyon is the world's oldest heraldic court, managing and regulating coats of arms and genealogy in Scotland.

Led by the 'Lord Lyon', who is appointed by the King, the Court of the Lord Lyon not only grants coats of arms and recognises clans, but also has substantial judicial authority to punish the use of unregistered coats of arms.

During his visit, Consul General Takeda was given a briefing on the overview of the Lyon Office, before touring the Court under the guidance of Russell Hunter, Esq., Lyon Clerk and Keeper of the Records. He was able to view pages such as the royal coat of arms in the Public Register, painted by heraldic artist Clare McCrory and signed by the late Queen Elizabeth in 2022.
