Job Opportunity: Cultural/ Information Assistant Full-Time

The Consulate General of Japan in Edinburgh is seeking to recruit a Cultural/ Information Assistant.
1. Working conditions
-Working hours: Every Monday through Friday (except holidays)
9:30am to 5:30pm (1 hour lunch break, unpaid)
*However, overtime and holiday work may be required.
-Vacation policy: Weekends off (Saturdays and Sundays), days the Consulate is closed, annual paid vacation, and sick leave policy.
-Allowance and benefits: To be determined based on work experience.
-Work location: Consulate-General of Japan in Edinburgh
2. Starts of Employment
-After June 2026 (To be determined)
3. Duties
-Japanese to English translation
-Speech writing
-Web publishing and social media content management
-Assisting diplomats in the management and promotion of public events, and providing follow-up reports
-Assist diplomats in the promotion of Japanese culture and language in schools
-Providing support and answering Japanese travel and education related enquiries via telephone and email
-Other duties of the Cultural/ Information section (documentation, appointment, research, etc.)
4. Eligibility Requirements
-U.K citizens or permanent residents

5. Qualities Required for the Job
-Fluent in English.
-Proficient command of spoken/written Japanese.
-Excellent comprehension and communication skills.
-General office skills using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) and social media tools (Facebook, X and Instagram).
-Ability to multi-task, set up and follow procedures.
-Ability to work cooperatively and communicate smoothly with internal and external parties.
-Able to work responsibly and build trusting relationships.
-Contribute as a member of a team to the execution of the business.
- Experience of international relations, as well as participation in the JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching) Programme, would be advantageous.
