On Thursday, 21st May, Consul General Katsutoshi Takeda paid a courtesy call on Cllr Kenneth Duffy, Provost of North Lanarkshire.

North Lanarkshire is an administrative area located just east of Glasgow, with the fourth highest population in Scotland. It has a history of leading the world as the 'engine of the Industrial Revolution' and has now been revitalised as a hub for modern logistics, where advanced Japanese companies have also establish strategic bases. The brilliant history of industrialisation and the life stories of the coal miners of the area are still passionately preserved at the Summerlee Industrial Heritage Museum. This is one of Scotland's largest museums and was built on the site of the then state-of-the-art 'Summerlee Ironworks'. The museum also has free admission.

During the visit, both parties visited the Summerlee Industrial Heritage Museum together. They observed exhibits including machinery and railway vehicles related to steel, coal, and engineering, which are designated as a Nationally Significant Collection of Scotland. They also viewed an Edwardian-era tramway (Heritage Tramway). After, the two exchanged opinions on the activities of Japanese companies in the region and the friendship that has existed so far between the area and Japan. They agreed to work closely together to further strengthen this relationship in the future.
