Attendance at the Scottish Bonsai National Exhibition
2026/5/24
On Sunday 24th May, Consul General Katsutoshi Takeda attended the Scottish Bonsai National Exhibition, organised by the Scottish Bonsai Association and held in Broxburn near Edinburgh. The Society, which holds the National Exhibition annually, was founded in Edinburgh in 1979 and has several branches across Scotland.
There was a large number of attendees of all ages, making the event a huge success. In addition to demonstrations of how to shape bonsai, there was an exhibition and sale of bonsai and related goods, making it the biggest bonsai event in Scotland.

This year, with the cooperation of the association and operated by the Consulate, there was an origami corner aiming to create a thousand cranes (Senbazuru) which provided a valuable opportunity for both children and adults to experience Japanese culture.
It is extremely gratifying that bonsai has become so deeply rooted in Scotland as a popular part of Japanese culture, and hopefully cultural exchange between the two countries will continue to be promoted through bonsai.
