On 16th June, Consul General Katsutoshi Takeda attended the launch event of the 2026 Edinburgh International Book Festival.

The Edinburgh International Book Festival is a festival of written culture held at the same time as the Edinburgh International Festival, one of the world's largest arts festivals. The International Book Festival has been held every August since 1983, with this year’s overall theme being “Changing Your Mind”. From August 15th – 30th, writers, thinkers and other participants will join together in over 600 different events aimed at people of all ages, from adults to children.

There will be talk events from famous Japanese authors who have had their work translated, such as Nao-cola Yamazaki, Mieko Kawakami and Natsuo Kirino. There will also be a Noh performance (Nonomiya/Song of Rona Island) , signifying a new collaboration between Scotland and Japan’s 600-year-old tradition. In addition to sharing traditional Japanese culture, literature, and ideology, the event is expected to promote diverse interactions between attendees.
