On Friday 19th June, Consul General Katsutoshi Takeda paid a visit to Edinburgh Castle to make a courtesy call on the Governor, Major General Bob Bruce, CBE, DSO, who represents the British Monarch at the historic fortress.

Historically designated as the chief authority overseeing the castle's defence and administration, the governorship now endures as a prestigious honorary office, preserving Scotland’s rich heritage and embodying the enduring alliance between the military and the castle.

Consul General Takeda was briefed at the Governor's House on the castle’s distinguished history and the pivotal role of the governor. Guided personally by the Governor, he was then given a tour of the Governor’s residence, as well as the Great Hall and the Scottish National War Museum, both located in Crown Square.

Within the sacred grounds of the museum, the Governor highlighted that the inner Shrine rests directly on the natural bedrock at the highest point of the extinct volcano.

Poised directly above this bedrock is the Casket with the names of approximately 147,000 fallen souls inscribed. Consul General Takeda was deeply moved by how this architectural foundation on the immutable rock powerfully encapsulates a future pledge of non-war, and stands as a profound symbol of reverence and bond that the spirits of the deceased are eternally intertwined with the soil of Scotland.
