Attendance at the Thomas Blake Glover Festival

On Sunday 14th June, Consul General Katsutoshi Takeda visited Fraserburgh and attended at the Thomas Blake Glover Festival.
Thomas Blake Glover contributed to the modernization of Japan during the late Edo period, and the festival honours his achievements and symbolises the friendship between Japan and Scotland. It is held annually on around 6th June, Glover’s birthday, in the memorial park in Fraserburgh, where he was born.
On the day, the opening ceremony was followed by local children performing songs and dances, a brass band playing, and a martial arts demonstration. There were also opportunities to experience Japanese culture, such as origami and calligraphy. Furthermore, at this year’s festival, a naming ceremony was held for Fraserburgh Harbour's new pilot boat, which was named "Glover."
We are pleased that friendship and goodwill between Japan and Scotland have continued through Glover from the end of the Edo period to the present day, and hope that these exchanges will continue for many years to come.
