On Friday 17th July, Consul General Katsutoshi Takeda visited the University of Glasgow’s Dumfries Campus. During the visit, he toured the campus and held discussions with faculty and staff members including Professor David Lundie and Professor Fabrice Renaud, Head of the School of Social and Environmental Sustainability.

The Dumfries Campus specialises in education, tourism, natural sciences, and sustainable development. Although it is a relatively small campus with fewer than 500 students, it has a highly international student body, with a significant proportion of overseas students. It is also the only campus of a Russell Group university located outside a major urban centre, enabling it to place particular emphasis on field-based learning that makes full use of the surrounding natural environment.

In recent years, the campus has expanded its partnerships with Japanese universities. From October 2028, it is scheduled to launch a joint degree programme with the School of Interdisciplinary Science and Innovation at Kyushu University. This will be the first undergraduate-level joint degree programme at a national university in Japan.

During their discussions, the Consul General Takeda and the university representatives exchanged views on the University's long-standing relationship with Japan and reaffirmed their commitment to continuing close cooperation in the future.
