Visit to the Dumfries Museum
2026/7/17
On Friday 17th July, Consul General Katsutoshi Takeda visited the Dumfries Museum.
Guided by curator Judith Hewitt, he viewed a wide range of exhibits, including archaeological artefacts dating back to the Roman period, historical relics associated with Robert the Bruce, displays highlighting local industries such as bicycle manufacturing and silverware, the museum's newly established Japan Corner, and the world's oldest surviving camera obscura, which has been in continuous operation since 1836.
The visit highlighted the museum's role in preserving both local and international heritage. It is hoped that the Dumfries Museum will continue to serve as a valuable platform for strengthening friendship and promoting cultural exchange between Scotland and Japan.
