Attendance at Edinburgh International Book Festival’s “Global Ink 2026” event

On Tuesday 18th August, Cultural Consul Masataka Abe attended the Edinburgh International Book Festival’s “Global Ink 2026” event.
“Global Ink” is an initiative that invites people involved with book festivals around the world to Edinburgh to discuss views on international exchange and mutual understanding on future international collaboration through literature. The 2026 event was held from August 17th to 19th, with the participation of 20 festival directors from 17 countries across Asia, Middle-east, Europe, North and Central America, and Oceania.
At the event, Jenny Niven, Edinburgh International Book Festival Director and CEO, gave an opening speech, which was followed by remarks from Douglas Alexander MP, Secretary of State for Scotland. Emphasis was given to the importance of Scotland holding events that bring people together to promote international exchange, cooperation and collaboration through literature.
Afterwards, singer Miwa Nagato-Apthorp, who has ties to Japan and is based in Scotland, performed music that filled the venue.
The event was a valuable opportunity to meet with people from book festivals around the world, and discuss views on international exchange through literature and culture.
