"Learning Japanese through Rakugo" event

On Friday 21st August, the Consulate General of Japan in Edinburgh alongside the Department of Japanese Studies at the University of Edinburgh co-hosted an event titled "Learning Japanese through Rakugo”.
The event was attended by a wide range of people including University of Edinburgh Japanese language students, members of the public, and students from Nagoya University who were visiting for a summer school program. The event began with a demonstration by Rakugo performer Katsura Monshiro. Afterward, everyone split into groups and practiced telling each other short Rakugo stories in both Japanese and English. At the end there were demonstrations from each group, filling the venue with laughter.
It was a valuable opportunity not only to learn Japanese through Rakugo but also to foster new connections through the universal language of laughter.
