Attendance at Mieko Kawakami Talk
2026/8/27
On Thursday 27th August, Consul General Katsutoshi Takeda attended a talk at the Edinburgh International Book Festival featuring author Mieko Kawakami, whose novels enjoy immense popularity in the UK. She is a leading figure among Japanese authors who are enjoying a huge wave of popularity in the UK: last year, seven of the best-selling translated works in the UK were by Japanese authors.
The festival’s largest venue was packed to capacity, and the subsequent book signing drew a long queue that extended outside the venue – a testament to the popularity of Japanese authors in the UK.
This event was made possible through a collaboration with the East and South East Asian Literary Festival and with the support of The Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation.
