Attending SOIL Japan Selection

On Tuesday 18th August, Cultural Consul Masataka Abe attended the SOIL Japan Selection event at Dance Base, Edinburgh.
The SOIL Project was launched in 2024 by the Japan Performing Arts Solidarity Network (JPASN) to bring Japanese performing arts productions to international audiences. The project was established following JPASN’s selection for the Agency for Cultural Affairs’ Creator Development Project Support Programme, part of its initiative to support the development of creators and enhance the value of cultural facilities.
SOIL aims to connect the next generation of Japanese theatre producers, playwrights and other performing arts professionals with their international counterparts, helping them build relationships and establish a presence within the global performing arts community. As part of this initiative, SOIL presents Japanese works to international audiences and industry professionals through its SOIL Japan Selection pitching events in Edinburgh and London.
Following last year’s event, the Edinburgh edition of SOIL Japan Selection returned for its second year, featuring eight groups selected from across Japan :
Mao Inoue (NAPPOS UNITED Co., Ltd.) : The Life of HOKUSAI
Chiemi Kawai (Shiki Theatre Company) : The Boy and the Beast
Kaori Kondo (daisydoze) : Cat Town
Ema Murakami (SPAC-Shizuoka Performing Arts Center) : Hamlet
HORIKAWA Honoh (SETAGAYA-SILK) : Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter
Rei Nishimura (HoriPro Inc.) : Orb: On the Movements of the Earth
Haruka Kawano (Nuthmique) : Tales of the Elsewhere Islands
Michiho Matsumoto (Nelke Planning Co.,Ltd.) : ATTACK on TITAN: The Musical
The event is expected to foster further exchange and collaboration between artists and practitioners in Japan and overseas.
