Visitors to Aberdeen Japan Day 2026 were able to experience a variety of Japanese cultural activities such as ikebana (flower arranging), calligraphy, origami, traditional Japanese toys like kendama and spinning tops, and had the opportunity to try on yukata and happi coats. Additionally, the Consulate displayed Hina dolls and Gogatsu-Ningyo (Japanese warrior doll)  and showcased Japanese food culture using realistic food replicas. There were demonstrations of Japanese martial arts—kendo, iaido, karate, aikido, judo and kyudo—as well as of chado/sado (tea ceremony) and ikebana(flower arranging). The event concluded with all participants joining a circle to dance the Bon Odori.

Despite the unfortunate rainy weather, the venue was bustling with a large, enthusiastic crowd. It was a day that truly symbolized the cultural exchange and friendly ties between Aberdeen and Japan.

We look forward to welcoming many people to the event again next year!
