On Monday 5th October, Consul General Katsutoshi Takeda visited Stirling and paid a courtesy call on Councillor Rosemary Fraser, Lord Provost of Stirling at Old Viewforth.
As celebrated by the famous saying, "He who holds Stirling holds Scotland," this ancient capital has long been a critically important strategic stronghold that shaped the nation's history.
The city remains deeply steeped in rich historical heritage, dominated by Stirling Castle overlooking the landscape and the National Wallace Monument honoring the legendary freedom fighter. Today, it thrives as a vibrant modern hub where history and nature seamlessly blend with a lively university.
In 2024, marking its historic 900th anniversary as a Royal Burgh, Stirling's civic head was officially elevated from "Provost" to "Lord Provost," following in the footsteps of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, and Dundee.
On that day, the two parties exchanged views on cooperation with Japan, including through the University of Stirling—such as the "Remembered: 80 years since the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki" exhibition held in 2025 to mark the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombings—and agreed to work closely together to further strengthen their relationship.
