Easing of restrictions on new entry of foreign nationals into Japan

2022/10/11
The border enforcement measures to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus (Covid-19) are eased as of 0:00 AM (JST) on 11 October 2022 and visa exemption arrangements with 68 countries and regions for short stay are reinstated. As a result, foreign nationals from the 68 countries and regions no longer require a visa to enter Japan for short stay (List of 68 countries and regions with visa exemption arrangements: here).

The citizens of countries and regions without the arrangements can also travel to Japan providing that they have obtained the adequate visas.

Those who consider a long term stay for studying, working and other purpose, a Certificate of Eligibility is required. Please see the relevant information on the Certificate of Eligibility.

There will be no problems for the travelers who have already obtained visas to enter Japan.
